01
Overview
Lab Orders covers the whole lab workflow: order a test, send it to the lab, receive the result back (CSV, PDF, or manually entered), flag abnormal values, and optionally publish to the patient's portal.
02
Activation
- 1Dashboard → Add-ons → Lab Orders → Activate.
- 2Open Settings to set lab report header text and default currency.
- 3Build the test catalog before creating any orders.
03
Test catalog
Lab Orders → Catalog. Organise tests into categories (Blood Work, Microbiology, Imaging) and define each test.
- Test name, code, unit, normal range (min and max), price.
- Categories can be reordered; tests can be moved between them.
- Deactivate tests you no longer run but need for historical orders.
04
Creating an order
- 1Lab Orders → New Order.
- 2Pick the client and the ordering clinician.
- 3Add tests from the catalog — each shows its reference range so you know what's abnormal once the result comes.
- 4Save. The order shows up on the main list with status Ordered.
05
Recording results
- 1Open the order.
- 2For each test, enter the value; if it's outside the normal range, flag it High, Low, or Abnormal.
- 3Attach the lab's PDF or image as supporting evidence.
- 4Save. Status moves to Results Received; a clinician review step is optional.
Alerts on abnormal values
Flagged values get a visual alert on the order detail and — if the Notifications add-on is enabled — can trigger a message to the ordering clinician.
06
Status workflow
- Ordered
- Created but not yet sent to the lab.
- Sent to Lab
- Actively at the lab.
- Results Received
- Values entered; flags applied.
- Reviewed
- A clinician has reviewed the results.
- Cancelled
- Order withdrawn.

Tips
- Accurate normal ranges are the whole point. A missing or wrong range means abnormal flags are meaningless.
- Attach the original lab PDF every time. Entered values are for querying; PDFs are the legal record.
- Publish results to the patient portal only after review. The Reviewed status is what unlocks visibility.
